If you’re in the market for a gaming laptop, then there are a few factors that you’ll want to keep in mind when selecting your laptop. For one, you’ll want to ensure that the laptop has the power to run all of your favorite games and enjoy them at high settings without slowing down or crashing. Another key factor to consider is battery life, which will vary by game but should still be sufficient to allow you to play nonstop without charging in the middle of an intense game.

Hardware and Design
The keyboard features 1.4mm key travel and is RGB-backlit with adjustable lighting zones. The WASD keys can be lit in red color, while all other keys are lit in white light. Apart from that, there is an extra set of WASD keys. These extra keys are not just a simple color swap of original WASD keys; they have been designed to make macro recording easier without having to take your hands off your mouse or move it away from a position that you prefer while gaming.
While gaming, the Asus TUF FX505 laptop generates a lot of heat. The heat is dissipated efficiently through dual fan parallel fan placement on both CPU and GPU sides. Additionally, ventilation holes present on either side of body ensures proper airflow inside the system and exhausts warm air out of the body. Thus, you won’t feel hot while gaming over long hours.
Powering your game sessions are ports placed on left and right edges of chassis. You get one USB 3.1 Gen 1 Type-C port along with two standard USB 3.0 ports along with HDMI 2.0 port which supports 4K output at 60Hz refresh rate with HDCP 2.2 compliance.
Screen and Resolution
The Asus TUF Gaming FX505 sports a 15.6 Full HD (1920x1080) IPS-Type Display that, as advertised, is capable of delivering smooth, immersive gaming experiences. The laptop’s 1920x1080 IPS panel has solid viewing angles and a 144Hz refresh rate with 3ms response time. Watching videos is just as good; text appears crisp and details are easy to make out even at extreme viewing angles.
The screen also supports Nvidia’s G-Sync adaptive refresh rate technology, which allows refresh rates to vary dynamically and adaptively according to your gameplay. This helps keep input lag low and reduce screen tearing.
G-Sync is easily enabled via Nvidia’s GeForce Experience software, which also allows you to set up many other features and parameters. Asus also offers its own excellent AURA RGB lighting software, which is only compatible with its TUF line of laptops and peripherals. While not as robust as some other manufacturer’s software, it does allow you to sync your PC with all your accessories via one simple interface.
The Asus TUF Gaming FX505 allows you to plug in up to two external monitors via HDMI 1.4 port. You can also use DisplayPort over USB Type-C if you want to connect an ultra-high-resolution monitor, though only at a maximum of 60Hz refresh rate. It’s not possible to use more than one external monitor at a time, however; nor is it possible to display your primary laptop screen on both your laptop and an external monitor simultaneously.
Sound and Speakers
The speakers are, on average, 80 decibels loud at head level. Bass sounds great too. When I listened to music and movies on it, I noticed some crackling sound which is expected of laptop speakers.
There are four different sound effects that can be activated from under Sound. And there's a virtual 7.1 surround sound setting, DTS X Ultra, which is pretty cool if you've got headphones on and want to hear some real surround sounds.
Gaming Performance
With regards to its gaming capabilities, the Asus TUF FX505 can play most games on medium to high settings at 60 fps or higher. As for me, I was able to run APEX Legends while getting an average of 85 fps. Other impressive numbers are 100 fps for Fortnite, 100 for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, and 144 fps for League of Legends. Just be sure to plug your charger in during long gaming sessions to avoid lag.
Battery Life
Asus TUF FX505 Battery life isn't as good as you'd hope. I could only get about 2 hours on average out of it during my tests, but if you're just typing up documents or other text-based projects (at a medium setting) then you'll still be able to make it last for about 3.5 hours before needing to charge again.
Final Thoughts On The ASUS TUF FX505
The Asus Tuf FX505 Gaming Laptop is a reliable choice for those who want to make the switch to PC gaming, as well as anyone who wants to upgrade from a computer to a laptop. The 8GB of RAM means you'll be able to play multiple programs at once without lagging and the graphics card has you covered for any game of lower or middle-skill.
I would recommend getting some extra memory if you’re looking to run games on high settings or have more than one program open at a time, but other than that it’s pretty much ready to go out of the box. Overall I really enjoyed using my ASUS TUF FX505 Gaming Laptop and think it will serve most people well!
